Although the pens are factory built by Pedigree Pens, there is still a fair amount involved in getting them up and running. The following photo gallery, chronicles the building work and will be added to as things happen, so watch this space!
Here is the original site being cleared of the old shed etc. |
The site now clear, the base is dug out to the required depth. |
Shuttering is placed around the outside and a layer of scalpings forms the hardcore |
To keep things nice and warm a thick layer of polystyrene is next |
A waterproof membrane is next. |
At last the concrete is poured in with a reinforcing steel mesh in the middle. |
Finally, the concrete is smoothed off to give a good base for the flooring. |
Now we just leave it for a couple of months to harden and dry out. |
| Special porcelein tiles from Panache being laid by the guys from A S Tiling. | At last, a beautiful tiled floor that should last for years and years | The shed (patzcatz temporary storeroom) is up and ready to receive its 'Sedum' roof. | The very heavy sedum tiles have been installed on the roof and are being watered in. Now we just wait for it to grow and flower... |
| End of Day 1. The pen frames are mostly up after an entertaining day for the cats who took it all in their stride. | Day 2: Martin and Ed are putting the roof on (bad weather forecast!) | End of Day 2. The structure is up, the roof is on and most of the pens are panelled out. | End of Day 3. All finished and Martin and Ed have gone home. All that remains is to install the sleeping shelves and radiators. |
